BEETHOVEN’S ESCAPE ROOM

Participatory scavenger hunt through Beethoven's life and work developed for and awarded with the interdisciplinary art prize Beethoven Reloaded

Picture: Anna Gohmert

With "Beethoven's Escape Room" Anna Gohmert, Cy Linke and Jonas Wolf create a scavenger hunt through the life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven's life and work. They orientate themselves on biographical details and Beethoven's musical works, allowing them to be experienced sensually as a multi-dimensional parcour game in a flat. Eight visitors enter the flat at the same time and get to know - room by room, track by track -  Beethoven and each other. How well can or do you really want to get to know Beethoven? And how well can or want to get to know the others who are in this flat with you?

Is the Beethoven’s Escape Room a space for
a) "Escape to Beethoven" or for
b) "Escape from Beethoven"?

When does Beethoven's humanism begin to shimmer? Where is the point where you can no longer bring Beethoven and the word "humanism" together? Why exactly does the main character, Alex, from "Clockwork Orange" have a soft spot for Beethoven? And do you actually feel "humanistic"?

By Anna Gohmert, Jonas Wolf and Cy Linke

Due to increasing numbers of cases, we closed the Escape Room in March 2020, wrote the article Pandemic vs. phantasmagoria - Reflections on the Phenomenon "Escape Game" and developed a form in a slightly different constellation in which theatre and encounter can take place analogously without a live encounter.
